Current Accounts

We will need to get some documents from you if you’re applying for a Current Account with PTSB to help us meet our legal and regulatory obligations. 

 

 

Important information

These are the minimum requirements, and PTSB may seek further documentation.

 

Required documents 

Document type Acceptable documents 
Proof of identification (ID)

For in-app applications:

  • Current valid passport / passport card.
  • Current valid Irish or UK driving licence (Full/ Provisional).

Your photo ID must be in date within 30 calendar days.

 

For branch applications:

  • Current valid passport / passport card.
  • Current valid Irish, UK, or EU driving licence.
  • Irish Government Travel Document.

Your photo ID must be in date.

If you don't have the above, you can provide 2 of the following in branch instead (at least one must include your date of birth):

  • Valid Public Services Card.
  • Valid Non-EU Driving Licence.
  • State Issued Birth Certificate.
  • EU National Identity Card.

Proof of address

  • A utility bill (issued within the last 5 months) e.g. gas or electricity bill.
  • A bank or building society statement (issued within the last 5 months).
  • Official Revenue documents (issued within the last 11 months). 
  • Your original household, health or motor insurance documents (issued within the last 11 months old).
  • Correspondence from regulated Pension Providers (issued within the last 11 months).
  • Jury Notice and TUSLA correspondence (issued within the last 5 months).

Your proof of address must have your full name and address on it. The name must match the name on your ID. Initials are not accepted.

Some documents that we cannot accept: Revenue PIN reminder letters, neobank statements e.g. Revolut or N26, mobile phone bills, receipts, invoices, motor tax correspondence and TV licence.

Signed declaration

For in-app applications: You'll be asked to review and digitally sign the application form during the process.

For branch applications: The form will be provided to you in branch.

Please read all information carefully before signing the declaration. 

Proof of Personal Public Access Number (PPSN)*

PTSB will collect your PPSN for all credit applications of €500 or greater. Acceptable proof of PPSN includes:

  • Most recent Employment Detail Summary (P60).
  • P45.
  • Statement of Liability (P21).
  • Payslip (where employer is identified by name or tax number).
  • Drug payment scheme card.
  • European health insurance card.
  • Tax Assessment.
  • Tax Return Form.
  • PAYE Notice of Tax Credits.
  • Child Benefit Award Letter/Book.
  • Pension Book.

Documents that we cannot accept: Public Services Card.

We are obliged under the Credit Reporting Act 2013 to collect and verify your PPSN.*


 

 

Account specific requirements 

Depending on the account type you are applying for, additional documents will be required.

Account type Acceptable documents 

Teen Account (12 - 17 year olds)

  • Proof of age (passport or birth certificate). 
  • Parent/guardian consent form (provided in branch). 
  • Proof of address (parent/guardian documents acceptable if living at the same address). 
Student Account (in branch only)

To open a Student Account you must provide proof of enrolment in a third-level institution. This can be:

  • A dated letter of acceptance, invoice, or receipt from 3rd level institution.
  • A letter from your college confirming your enrolment. (Letter must be on headed paper, dated and signed by the College Administration Office).

 

 

Circumstantial requirements

These apply depending on your circumstances. 

Circumstance Acceptable documents
New residents

If you've recently moved to Ireland and don't yet have standard proof of address documents, you can use a letter from the Department of Social Protection confirming your Public Service Number (PPSN) as valid proof of address. View example of this letter.

Refugees / asylum seekers

When applying for a Basic Payment Account, you may need to provide: 

  • Revenue-issued Tax Credit Certificate (dated within last 11 months). A Public Service Number (PPSN) is required for this process.
  • Correspondence from Direct Provision Centre / Emergency reception and Orientation Centre confirming your residency and the date you commenced residency (dated within last 5 months).
  • Correspondence from a Government Department (e.g. the Department of Justice, the Department of Social Protection or the International Protection Office (IPO) that includes your full residential address (includes Labour Market Access Permission Letter) (dated within the last 5 months).
  • Correspondence from a Government Department showing your full residential address (dated within last 5 months).
  • Temporary Residence Certificate (TRC).

Immigration status

If you are not an Irish or EU citizen, you will need to provide: 

  • Irish Residence Permit (IRP) Card. 
  • Stamp 4 or other immigration permission. 
  • Correspondence from the Department of Justice confirming your immigration status.
Tax resident outside Ireland

If you are a tax resident outside of Ireland including jurisdictions within multiple tax residences, PTSB must collect certain information and report it to the Irish Revenue Commissioners. Revenue will then share this information with the tax authorities in the relevant countries. 

The information we are required to collect and report includes: 

  • Name
  • Address
  • Date and place of birth
  • Account number
  • Jurisdiction(s) of residence 
  • Tax Identification Number (TIN)
  • Account balance and interest payments

What if I changed my name?

If you have recently changed your name, but your passport is still in your previous name, it is the passport that is the legal identification that is acceptable proof of identity.

Proof of name change include:

  • Marriage Certificate/Divorce Decree
  • Deed Poll
  • Gender Recognition Certificate

 

What if the name on my ID doesn’t match my proof of address?

If your name or ID differs to that of your proof of address, please supply the following applicable documentation evidencing both names:

I want to open a joint account or add a party to my account

For joint account opening, both parties should attend the appointment. If this is not possible, an account may be opened in a single name and the second party can be added later.

Proof of identity and proof of address will be required for the second party, and they must present these documents at a branch.
