Who can avail of the Explore Account?

The account will be available to personal customers aged 18 and over.

How can I open the Explore Account?

Search “PTSB” in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and download. Select “Current Account Application”, enter your basic information, verify your ID and address and submit your application in app.

To apply in app you have to be over 18, resident in the Republic of Ireland and opening:

  • New or existing PTSB customer opening a sole Current Account in your own name
  • New PTSB customers opening a Joint Current Account*

*If one or both of you are already customers with PTSB, you will need to attend a PTSB branch to open your account. We are working hard to bring Joint Current Account opening to the app for our existing customers soon.

Is there a Visa Debit Card available on this account?

Yes, a contactless Visa Debit Card is available on this account. Once your account is open and active, your Visa Debit Card and PIN will issue in the post. Your card will arrive in 5-7 working days and your PIN in 3-4 working days.

Is there a chequebook available on this account?

Yes, it is possible to have a chequebook on the Explore Account – it is not automatic and you must place an order and the cheque book will be issued to you via Post. You can order a cheque book via Open24 or any PTSB ATM. Government Stamp duty of €20 will be deducted from your account upon ordering a cheque book.

What statements are available for the Explore Account?

How long are eStatements available to view on Open24?

With effect from 6 December 2021, all newly issued bank account eStatements on Open24 or in-app will be available for up to 2 years from the statement issue date for open accounts. Bank account eStatements issued prior to 6th December 2021 will continue to be available for a maximum of 15 months from the statement issue date for open accounts.

What if I do not want eStatements?

If you wish to request a paper statement you will need to call us on 0818 502 424 or +353 1 212 4101; Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm (excluding bank holidays) or Saturday & Sunday, 10am – 2pm. Please note: paper statements are viewed as a duplicate statement and have a charge of €2.50 per page, capped at €20 per individual account request.

Account Fees and Charges

What fees are on the account?

There is a €8 fee for maintaining the account which will be applied on the first working day of each month. There are no ‘day to day’ transaction fees for using your Visa Debit Card or Direct Debits and Standing Orders. There may be other charges for things like Government Stamp Duty on your bank card, unpaid items or if you use an ATM outside the Eurozone. What do we mean by day to day transaction fees?
  • Standing Order and Bill payment set ups & transactions
  • Direct Debit set ups & transactions
  • Open24 telephone & internet transactions
  • Direct Credits
  • ATM – Euro withdrawals within the EU
  • Debit – using a Debit card for purchases in euro within the eurozone
  • eStatements (excluding duplicates)
  • Counter lodgements and withdrawals
  • Cheque and paper debits
  • Credit transfers incoming (paper items)

ATM transaction charges will apply on Euro withdrawals outside the EU and on all non Euro withdrawals at 3.5% of the Euro value of the transaction (min. €3.17 & max. €11.43). A fee for using your Debit Card for purchases in foreign currency and on all debit transactions outside the Eurozone will apply at 1.75% of the Euro value of the transaction (min. €0.46 and max €11.43).

How will the monthly fee be charged from my Explore Account?

A monthly fee for maintaining the account of €8 will be deducted automatically on the first working day of each month.

5c Cashback and Cashback on Bills

How do I sign up for the account benefits?

5c back as you pay is automatic and once you activate your Visa Debit Card you will avail of this feature capped at €5 per month. 

Cashback on bills is automatic on your account as long as you pay a bill by Direct Debit with one of our Direct Debit partners. Whether you’re a new customer, or already have an account with our partners you can avail of this exclusive deal when you pay by Direct Debit from your Explore Account.

Where does my cashback go?

5c back as you pay – cashback can be lodged to the Explore Account on the first working day of each month. Alternatively you can nominate another account in Open24 or at your local branch.

With 5c back as you pay is there a limit on what I can earn each month?

Yes, this feature is capped at €5 per month.

Do I earn 5c back each time I use the ATM?

No, 5c back as you pay is limited to point of sale, contactless, Apple Pay, Google Pay and online transactions. ATM or Branch withdrawals do not apply.

Will the 5c be taken off my total transaction price at the point of purchase?

No, when making a transaction you will still pay the full amount. You will receive the cashback on the first working day of each month.

Is there a limit on what I can earn from cashback on bills?

Each Direct Debit partner is offering a certain percentage*. This is not capped; you will receive the qualifying percentage off your full Direct Debit paid.

*Please note Cashback on Bills does not include Sky Mobile bills

Will the percentage off my total Direct Debit be taken when my Direct Debit is due?

No, your Direct Debit will bill for the full amount and you will receive your cashback on the first working day of each month.

Circle K works differently - your 4c discount is taken at point of sale with your Circle K fuelcard and you will receive a Direct Debit for the total amount minus your discount.

Where do I get my Circle K fuelcard?

Once you open your account you will receive a unique code to register for your Circle K fuelcard. Once you register, your fuelcard will be posted to you.

What is included in 5% cashback on Sky bills?

5% Cashback on Sky bills includes Sky TV, Sky Broadband and Sky Glass but does not include Sky Mobile bills.
