Payment Service Directive Device Registration

We are introducing new measures to help prevent fraudulent activity when a customer is registering a new smart device for online banking. This enhancement is designed to safeguard you against fraudulent activity.

How it works

Device registration links your customer profile to your smart device (mobile or tablet) which will allow you to provide authentication.

For your security when accessing your payment account(s) online or completing certain online processes and payments we need to verify that it is you.

This will be done by sending a push notification to your registered device. Push notifications are real-time messages that pop up on your device screen advising you to authenticate certain online activity.

Important information

Customers can only have one registered device at any one time.

What's changed

We have recently launched an updated version (10.6) of the personal PTSB App. When you access the PTSB App or the Business24 Authenticator App for Business customers for the first time, you will be asked to register your smart device (mobile or tablet).

Getting started

Updating the PTSB App

If you already have the PTSB App on the device you would like to link your profile to, you may need to manually update the App to the latest version through your app store. If you have enabled auto-updates for the PTSB App, this update may happen automatically.

Important information

We frequently update our App with new security and service enhancements so please check your App regularly for updates.

Registering my device

When you access the latest version of the PTSB App or Business24 Authenticator App for the first time, you will be asked to register your smart device (mobile or tablet).

Once you have enrolled and registered your smart device, this will be the only device you can use to log in to your banking app going forward, i.e. you will not be able to access your app on any other phone or tablet.

You can change your registered device at any time, but it’s important to note this when selecting your smart device, and the device being registered will be sent a notification advising the same.

You can access the authentication process by simply opening the PTSB App on your registered device, or by following the steps below to set-up your app on your preferred device:

  • 1
    Log in

Log in using your Open24 or Business24 number (it's on the back of your Visa Debit Card). Enter your internet password followed by 3 digits of your 6 digit Personal Access Number (PAN).

  • 2
    Register your device

Register your smart device and confirm by inputting the security code sent via SMS to your device, The SMS will contain a one time passcode (OTP) for a device registration.

  • 3
    Allow push notifications

Set your permission to allow push notifications for the PTSB App or Business24 Authenticator App.

Push Notifications

When completing your smart device registration, you will be asked to allow push notifications for the PTSB or Business24 Authenticator App. This allows us to send you real time notifications that pop up on your device screen, advising you to authenticate certain online activity.

You will receive a push notification to your existing device should another device be registered to your account (for fraud prevention).

Important information

PTSB will never ask you to share any 6 digit codes over the phone or request that you delete your PTSB App for security reasons.

Do I need to allow push notifications for the PTSB App or Business24 Authenticator App?

Yes, we use push notifications to send you a real time message to your device even when your app is not open, advising you to authenticate certain online activity.

Warning: If you do not grant permissions to receive push notifications you will be restricted from certain online activity such as accessing your payment account(s) or completing certain online processes and payments.
