Gambling Block

Stop gambling transactions in-app

We understand that gambling can sometimes become difficult to manage. That’s why we’ve introduced a new feature which enables you to block gambling Debit or Credit Card transactions – directly in our PTSB App.

Our Gambling Block feature is available 24/7 in-app, so you can take control of how you spend your money in your own time. While you don’t have to call us to enable your Gambling Block, if you are worried about making any repayments as result of gambling, or for any other reason, please contact us - we’re here to help.

How our Gambling Block works

When turned on, we will stop card payments to merchants registered as gambling services. These may include betting shops, online casinos, and sports betting apps and websites.

  • Transactions are blocked instantly once this feature is activated.
  • You decide when or if you want to remove the block – there’s no pressure.
  • If you choose to remove it, there is a 48 hour delay before your card can be used for gambling transactions again. During the 48 hours you can always choose to add the block again, at any time.
Important information

This block will prevent transactions identified to us as gambling from being approved on your card. However, if the transaction isn't flagged to us as gambling, it will process as usual.

How to activate Gambling Block in the PTSB App

I'm already using the PTSB App:

  • Open the PTSB App.
  • Go to "Manage Cards".
  • Select "Block Gambling Transactions".
  • Follow the steps on screen to activate it.

I'm registered for Open24 Online Banking, but I don't have the app:

What is problem gambling?

Everyone's relationship with gambling is different. Problem gambling isn't about how often you gamble, but how it makes you feel and the impact it has on your life.

Problem gambling is when a person’s gambling habits begin to negatively affect their life—financially, emotionally, or socially. Signs of Problem Gambling to look out for:

  • Preoccupation with gambling: Constantly thinking about gambling or past wins.
  • Increasing stakes: Needing to gamble with larger amounts to feel the same excitement.
  • Failed attempts to stop: Repeatedly trying to cut back or quit without success.
  • Mood changes: Feeling irritable, anxious, or restless when not gambling.
  • Gambling to escape: Using gambling to cope with stress, anxiety, or low mood.
  • Chasing losses: Trying to win back money lost by gambling more.
  • Secrecy: Hiding gambling habits or lying about how much time or money is spent.
  • Financial trouble: Borrowing money or relying on others to cover gambling-related debts.
  • Relationship issues: Gambling causing conflict or breakdowns in personal or work relationships.
  • Neglecting responsibilities: Missing work, school, or family obligations due to gambling.

If any of this feels familiar, it doesn't mean you've failed, it just means you might need a bit of support. Taking a step like turning on a Gambling Block is a positive move towards feeling more in control.
