It's worth knowing how to spot counterfeit notes, particularly if you regularly handle cash or are exchanging money with someone you don't know.
Euro banknotes have a range of built-in security features that make them very difficult to replicate. The quickest way to check is the Feel, Look, Tilt test.
Run your fingers across the note. Genuine euro banknotes are printed on cotton fibre paper which gives them a distinctive crisp, firm texture. You should also be able to feel raised ink on the front of the note, particularly on the large value numeral, the lettering, and the main image.
Hold the note up to the light. Two things should be visible:

If you receive a counterfeit note do not try to pass it on. Note the details of where and how you received it, and hand it in to your local Garda station or nearest PTSB branch as soon as possible.
