Please be wary of fraudulent text messages and phone calls claiming to be from PTSB. We will never ask you to download a remote access application such as Any desk, or TeamViewer. If in doubt, call us immediately on +353 (1) 669 5851. Lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How this scam works

  1. You receive a phone call claiming to be from PTSB.
  2. You're told to search for a web page and click "live chat" to "fix" an issue (e.g, a tax/PAYEE problem or suspicious payment).
  3. The "chat" asks you to download software like TeamViewer or AnyDesk.
  4. Once installed, the criminal can control your device, see your screen, and guide you to approve payments you believe you're canceling.

PTSB will never

  • Ask you to download any remote-access app.
  • Contact you asking for your Open24 password, full login details, or One-Time Passcode (OTP) by phone, text or email.
  • Send links to pages that ask for online banking logins.
  • Ask you to transfer funds to another account for security purposes, or to "cancel" a payment.

What to do right now

  • Hang up the call. Do not click links or install software.
  • Call our Fraud Department on +353 (1) 669 5851. Lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • If you already installed software, disconnect your internet, power off your device, and call us.
  • If you approved or see unknown payments, call us so we can advise next steps.
  • You can also report to An Garda Síochána.
