The permanent tsb Foróige Youth Citizenship Programme is a youth development programme that empowers young people nationwide to use their skills, talents and attributes to make a positive difference to their community and society. Young people identify and undertake projects in their area, a number of which are showcased in the associated annual TV Awards ‘Ireland’s Top Teens’.
Previous winners include The Attic Foróige Youth Cafe in Longford who devised and implemented a discount card for local businesses in response to the effects of the current economic climate in their town.
Foróige’s purpose is to empower young people and to facilitate them to enrich their community through active civic engagement. In doing so, young people improve self confidence and self reliance, build strength in resisting peer pressure and develop the basis for a rewarding adulthood. The permanent tsb Foróige Youth Citizenship Programme and Irelands Top Teens Awards gives young people the opportunity to make a real difference for their friends, family and community.
Without the support of permanent tsb Foróige would not be able to expand its reach in bringing the Citizenship Programme to over 12,000 young people annually. The support it offers in complimenting our team in the areas of marketing and PR expertise has meant the calibre of the awards ceremonies has risen every year therefore offering effective engagement with young people. The partnership has also helped establish and shape the TV Awards ‘Ireland’s Top Teens’ which will have a fourth run this year.
This years national event, held on the 1st July saw nearly 3,000 young people from all over Ireland meet in the RDS to take part in some of the most exciting sports workshops in the country, listen to some of Irelands most inspirational speakers and participate in Irelands biggest ever silent disco!
Foróige reaches 57,000 young people annually and the permanent tsb Foróige Youth Citizenship Programme and Irelands Top Teens Awards reaches 12,000. Foróige’s goal is to make programmes like the permanent tsb Foróige Youth Citizenship Programme and Irelands Top Teens Awards available to every young person in Ireland. Commenting on the programme, Niall O’Grady, General Manager, Marketing, permanent tsb has stated:
permanent tsb decided to get involved with the Youth Citizenship Programme and Awards because we wanted to support young people who wanted to get more involved in appreciating and improving their local community. It had to be an initiative that allowed young people to lead the projects and feel that they could create a meaningful legacy. On another level it allows us to give something back to the communities where we conduct our business.
