The first step to moving your Credit Card balance to PTSB is to apply for a PTSB ICE Visa Credit Card.

Find out how to apply, and transfer a balance, below.

Before you start

To be eligible for a Credit Card you need to be:

  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Resident in the Republic of Ireland
  • Have a minimum of 6 months continuous employment

To apply for a Credit Card you will need:

  • Your PPSN
  • Proof of Income such as your last 3 months bank statements / recent payslip.
  • Proof of Employment permanency if you‘ve been in your current job less than 12 months
  • Proof of Immigration status if you are not an EU citizen
  • Tax Identification number (if you are a tax resident outside of Ireland)
  • Proof of ID and Address – If you are a new customer or an existing customer whose personal identification documents are not up to date, we will need ID and address documentation from you also.

Please see here for more information on each of these required documents.

Please Note: Not all applications are the same and additional information may be required in certain circumstances. We’ll let you know as soon as possible if we require further information.

Warning: If you do not meet the repayments on your loan, your account will go into arrears. This may affect your credit rating, which may limit your ability to access credit, a hire- purchase agreement, a consumer-hire agreement or a BNPL agreement in the future.

A step by step guide

Step 1: How to apply
Apply in App

We’ve made applying for a Credit Card quicker and easier!

If you are registered for Open24 online banking, you can log into the PTSB  app and submit your Credit Card application. Select the “Credit Card Application” icon and follow the instructions.

Your application can only be taken out in your sole name in-app and will be subject to a full credit assessment and affordability assessment.

Log in to Open24

Top tip: Make sure you have your PPSN to hand in order to apply

We are obliged under the Credit Reporting Act 2013, to collect and verify your PPSN for credit applications of €500 or greater.

We use your PPSN number to check your credit history on the Central Credit Register.

You will have to enter your PPSN number when submitting your application in-app or provide it to us if applying over the phone or in branch. If we already have it on file, you will not have to provide it to us again. If approved, you will need to provide us with a proof of your PPSN, see here for documents that we can accept.

Please note: We cannot accept your Public Services card as proof of PPSN.

Frequently asked questions

What will my credit limit be?

A credit limit is the maximum limit that you can spend on your card. You will be asked when completing your application for the amount you want to apply for. Your credit limit will vary based on your income and other borrowing commitments that you have.

We’ll let you know what your limit is when we approve your application. The minimum credit limit you can apply for is €1,000 and the maximum is €30,000.

Can I open a joint Credit Card?

No, PTSB do not offer joint Credit Cards, however you can add an “authorised” user to your Credit Card account.

How do I add an authorised user?

You can nominate another person to be an authorised user on your Visa Credit Card account. They’ll get a card and will be able to use your account.

You will have to attend the branch with the person you want to add as an authorised user, you can make an appointment by contacting us on 0818 50 24 24, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) 9am to 5pm and 10am -2pm Saturday and Sunday.

You’ll be referred to as the “Primary Cardholder” or “Principal Cardholder” with the authorised user referred to as the “Secondary Cardholder” or “Authorised User.”

The Authorised User shares the credit limit that you’ve been assigned. They are not given an additional limit.

We issue only one monthly statement per account – this will show both the name of the Principal Cardholder and the Authorised User.

Authorised Users have restricted access to the Visa Credit Card account – they cannot request any changes to the account, apart from card cancellation and replacement.

The Principal Cardholder must activate the Authorised User’s card. Principal Cardholders can activate the card through their Open24 online banking. Please note that activating the Principal Cardholder’s card will automatically activate the Authorised User’s card.
