2 July 2024

PTSB Diversity Inclusion Culture Ethnicity (DICE) Employee Resource Group (ERG)

PTSB is an equal opportunities employer committed to creating a professional environment in which our employees feel valued, included, and empowered to succeed in their career, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, race, religion, ability/disability, background, or life experiences.

PTSB has made significant progress since launching our D&I Strategy in 2018, and in 2023 we received both the CIPD Award for Diversity & Inclusion and the Workplace Excellence Award for Excellence in Workplace Diversity & Inclusion, both recognising our journey and the achievements delivered. We are incredibly proud to be the 12th company in Ireland to receive the Investors in Diversity Gold Accreditation following an in depth assessment across 5 Pillars; Diverse & Inclusive Leadership, Policies, Procedures & Processes, Recruitment Retention & Progression, Recording & Monitoring, and Impact on External Diversity. DEI is always evolving and we will use this accreditation process to continue to drive improvements, we will go through a re-accreditation process in 2025.

To support the delivery of our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategy, five volunteer-led Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) have been established, the ERG’s aim is to help diverse groups obtain a collective voice within the organisation and serve as an organised and established platform to promote change, organise events and create awareness to support PTSB and our people to become more inclusive. DiCE (Diversity, Inclusion, Culture and Ethnicity) is one of our five ERG’s.

DiCE ERG has created a strong and meaningful impact through relentless dedication, innovative initiatives, and unwavering commitment to creating an environment where every colleague feels safe, valued, heard, and empowered. With 70+ nationalities in PTSB and growing, the DiCE ERG has been instrumental in organising a variety of events that celebrate the rich tapestry of our colleagues. From cultural celebrations to awareness campaigns, they have successfully created opportunities for colleagues to connect and learn from each other, as well as created a platform where employees were able to freely speak about any DEI concerns and shared their cultural / faith beliefs and requirements for diet / on-site in the office. Inclusivity is at the forefront and creating a safe and united workplace for everyone is the ambition behind the agenda of each and the campaign and initiative.

In addition to winning the Speaking Up Psychological Safety category at the Irish Banking Culture Awards, we have made significant progress across several areas since the inception of the DiCE ERG, these include:

Championing Psychological Safety at a Bank wide level

Recognising the importance of psychological safety in fostering innovation and collaboration, the DiCE ERG has initiated workshops, meetings, and awareness campaigns across the Bank. Colleagues feel empowered to speak up, challenge the status quo, and contribute to meaningful change. Regular meetings serve as vibrant forums for brainstorming and ideation, where colleagues are encouraged to challenge the status quo and drive initiatives aimed at enhancing psychological safety & inclusivity in the workplace.

Say My Name Campaign

One of the most significant ongoing initiatives, the Say My Name Campaign, subtly encouraged individuals to take pride in their heritage and feel safe in expressing themselves. The simple act of including phonetics in email signatures and updating pronunciation on LinkedIn profiles served as a symbolic gesture of mutual respect and understanding. During a poignant virtual panel discussion, colleagues shared their inspiring career experiences and how they embraced their name proudly, underscoring the campaign’s impact on fostering a profound sense of belonging and acceptance. The Say My Name campaign has paved the way for many of our colleagues to be open and courageous in how they perceive their workplace identity. Colleagues used our interactive internal social platform to tag other colleagues and describe the meaning of their names and requested others to do so. This has a significant impact on colleagues building a social connection and building stronger relationships in their respective teams and departments.

DiCE InterCultural Festival

This is DiCE annual festival event organised by the DiCE ERG is an Intercultural Festival of unprecedented scale & diversity. Serving as a vibrant celebration of cultural heritage, this event creates a platform for colleagues to showcase their talents and share their unique cultural narratives with the rest of the Bank. The event witnesses a large footfall of colleagues across all levels, and participation from our nationwide offices and includes Irish-Indian duet performances, African dancing, Malaysian anchors; and performances from China, Venezuelan, and Nigeria. This creates a very strong vibe among colleagues who participate and who join in the audience. Colleagues are able to share their cultural experiences openly and the joy of appreciating this itself makes this event most memorable.

Around the World Series

Through the ’Bank’s internal communications platform, the group creates a series that not only celebrated colleagues’ uniqueness and their cultural identity, but also gives colleagues the opportunity to have their stories heard and valued. This series allows colleagues to spotlight themselves and share their life experiences and what makes them, without the fear of judgment and thus having psychological safety. As the series is shared using internal communications channels, it allows for a level of engagement that far exceeds expectations by way of the engagement. It allows colleagues to relate to each other, build connections, learn from each other, and allows colleagues to feel safe and secure due to the built-in trust. Colleagues share a myriad of things, from facts and experiences from their countries to unique culture, food, travel and life experience.

  • A review and update of our recruitment and promotion processes with a DEI lens to ensure the avoidance of bias in these processes.
  • The development of focused inclusive leadership development programmes that support career development.
  • Introduction of a Multi Faith Room
  • Encouraging colleagues to update their personal data to include optional extras, including race, religion, nationality, and disability (amongst others).
