Kellie Harrington’s gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo put her on the top rung of Irish sports stars and created a moment that touched the entire Nation.
Harrington first emerged as a contender in 2016 when she won a World Championship silver medal at light welterweight but her career really blossomed when she moved down to the 60kg weight class. Since then, she has amassed eight major championship medals, including World and European Championship golds, and most recently European Games gold at Krakow 2023.
Outside of the ring, Harrington has been an active champion of social inclusion and of her community in inner city Dublin. She was one of 180 openly gay athletes at the Tokyo Games and received the freedom of Dublin City in 2022.
